The presentation will introduce the audience to the various national security threats from hostile vehicles and then illustrate the protective security measures that can be found in the public realm that mitigate against these threats. Most of these measures comprise non-frangible items of street furniture and the presenter will highlight some of the associated safety issues for road users that need to be considered at the design stage. The science behind the development of the countermeasures will be demonstrated – some of which can be used as an investigative tool for collisions involving vehicles versus the infrastructure.
